Newcastle Eagles are delighted to have brought Maria Mongomo to club in player-coach Chloe Gaynor latest addition to the women’s 2025/26 team.

The 5’9″ Spanish guard has vast experience in the professional game as well as being a former Spanish junior international from age 16 to 20.

Mongomo played at Fribourg in Switzerland last year averaging 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 4 EuroCup games before leaving in December.

“I’m excited to welcome Maria to Tyneside”, said Eagles play-caller Gaynor.

“Her ability to stretch the floor and play across multiple positions will suit our versatile style of play well.

“Maria has experience in Europe, and I’m looking forward to her making her stamp over here in the SLB.”

Starting as a junior at Gran Canaria, Mongomo went on to play University ball at North British Columbia in Canada for five years before returning to Spain and starting her professional career at Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre PDM.

The Spaniard then returned to play in Gran Canaria, before moving on to Luxembourg, Belgium and Switzerland.

In her one season in the top-flight in Belgium with Bruenhaut in 2023/24 she averaged 13.7 points and 6.6 rebounds a game.

Mongomo bring her experience and know-how to Newcastle as Gaynor reboots her roster for the forthcoming season.

“The grind is real, but so is the unity between staff, team, and crowd”, said Mongomo.

“I’m signed and ready to go to war with my new squad. New jersey, same fire.

“I’m proud to join this club and ready to grow and battle. Let’s make every game count.”

Mongomo’s comments sound like a battle-cry to her team mates, coaches and fans and show she’s ready for the season ahead.

Along with her new-look Eagles women’s roster, Mongomo will run out on court at tomorrow’s launch night at the Vertu Arena and tickets are still on sale from the box office.
