Canadian Sarah Wells is the latest recruit to Newcastle Eagles 2025/26 Women’s Super League Basketball roster.

The ex-Durham Palatinate will join her former teammate Shanique Lucas on Tyneside in a busy summer of recruitment for head coach Chloe Gaynor.

The former NCAA Division 1 University of Vermont graduate returned figures of 7.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game after recovering from an early 2024/25 season injury.

“I’m ecstatic to be joining the Newcastle family”, Wells said.

“I’m so excited to connect with the coaching staff and organisation, as well as my new teammates.

“I’m really looking forward to be a part of a winning culture like the Eagles.”

The 5’11” forward has also played professionally in Germany for MTV Stuttgart in season 2022/23.

Gaynor has built a new-look team for the forthcoming campaign and Wells is another solid addition the already exciting looking roster, bringing her SLB battle-hardened experience a short journey up the A1.

“After watching Sarah play last season with Durham and getting to know her character, I think she is a great fit for what we are trying to do this season”, Gaynor added.

“Sarah is a hard worker who is willing to do what the team needs and her competitiveness will help us both in games and in training.

“I’m excited to see how her game progresses after her season was hampered with injury last year, her dedication to her recovery and impact on her team off the back of it was notable.

“I’m looking forward to working with her.”

Wells joins an ever growing line-up that Eagles fans can’t wait to see in action.

The club’s annual team launch night this coming Friday will be the first chance to meet the players and hear from them ahead of the women’s opening game at home on Sunday 21 September against Sheffield Hatters. Tickets for both The Launch and the season opener are available from the box office.
