The Eagles have recorded crucial back-to-back wins against the Sheffield Sharks, after beating their rivals 85-80 in a tense finale in the North East. Andrew Thomson led the Eagles with 25 points, supported by 18 from Joe Chapman; while Jimmy Langhurst returned 24 points for the visiting Sharks.
After a slow start, the teams traded baskets in a tight first quarter, before a Langhurst three-pointer sparked a 10-2 run that helped the Sharks into a double-digit second quarter lead. The Eagles picked up some momentum around the half time break and two Chapman triples helped them fight back to lead 38-36 before a series of eight lead changes ensued in the third quarter.
That momentum carried as the Eagles seemed to settle the game with a 12-4 opening to the fourth quarter, Chapman with five straight points, before the lead peaked at 75-61. But the Sharks came storming back to set up a tense finish with a 18-4 surge that culminated in a Langhurst triple to tie the game at 79 with 1.35 to play. But Paul Gause settled the Eagles with a score, and the Sharks would score just one more point as Ross Wilson and Thomson, from the line, saw the Eagles to the win.
