Last Friday night at the Vertu Motors Arena the draw took place for the 2023 BBL Trophy first round live on Sky Sports.

16 teams in total went into the draw, 10 BBL teams and six invited teams with home ties assured to the teams who made the Trophy Quarter Finals in the 2021-22 campaign.

The non-BBL teams in the draw this season included Basketball Wales, Derby, Nottingham, St. Mirran, Thames Valley and Worthing.

Our Newcastle Eagles were drawn away to Caledonia Gladiators in the opening stage of the knockout bracket single-leg format.

The first round games are set to tip-off in January 2023 and the fixture date of our Eagles’ road trip over the border will Friday 13 January with a 7:30pm tip-off.
