Newcastle Eagles are delighted to announce head coach Chloe Gaynor’s latest recruit to her new-look 2025/26 Women’s Super League Basketball (SLB) roster.

Exciting and explosive point guard Alyssa Marin flies into Newcastle from NCAA Big West Conference University of California Santa Barbara.

The 5’9” player has had a stellar USA collegiate career spending 5 years in California where she was a starter in each of the last four seasons.

Her final senior campaign saw her average 14.2 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game making her a selection to the All-Big West Second Team.

“I’m excited to have Alyssa on board with us this year”, said Gaynor.

“Coming in to her rookie year I’m excited to see how Alyssa impacts the fast-paced style of play we have from the point guard position”.

The Californian was ranked number 1 in the Big West Conference in free shooting making 85.3% of her shots from the charity stripe. Overall, in her career at UCSB she totalled a mammoth 1,234 points.

“Our conversations have been very positive over the summer and Alyssa is someone who fits the Eagles values on and off court”, Gaynor added.

“Fans can expect to see Alyssa be a threat from not only the three-point line but also the free throw line in both the SLB and BUCS for Newcastle University, where she is attending the business school.”

Marin’s versatility and leadership at the UCSB Gauchos was well known, as were her sharp shooting and clutch performances. Her skillset combines scoring prowess with playmaking ability enabling her to play at either of the guard positions.

“I’m beyond excited to begin my professional basketball career with the Newcastle Eagles”, said Marin.

“From what I’ve already seen, this organization is built on a culture of excellence with an incredible foundation of coaches and staff.

“Having the opportunity to play under the reigning Coach of the Year gives me even more confidence and motivation heading into the season.

“Playing professional basketball has always been a dream of mine, and I can’t wait to get started.

“The passion and energy of the Eagles fanbase really stood out to me, and I’m truly honoured to become a part of it.”

Fans can expect a rollout of new signings to the Newcastle women’s team to have Marin’s fast-pace over the coming weeks ahead of the season start.

The first chance to meet the new roster will be at The Launch, the club’s opening pre-season event, on Friday 5 September.

Tickets for The Launch are on sale from the box office now along with the Eagles’ first home game on Sunday 21 September when Sheffield Hatters visit the Vertu Arena.
