Eagles U18s hosted City of Leeds Basketball club who were well drilled and athletic team who shot ball very well. The eagles however opened up scoring with a 6-0 run with the guards Rizza and Spoors taking advantage of the visitors full court press. First Quarter ended with the home team leading 21-17
The second quarter saw Leeds open up scoring and shot the ball well from the perimeter with the home team taking advantage of the different mismatches from the screen and switches that occurred. The Eagles went into the locker room at half time up by 8 .45-33
In the third quarter, eagles came out correcting the mistakes but the visitors picked up on the home teams press break with the Eagles beginning to feel the pressure from the visitors. This was a crucial quarter for what was to happen in the 4th quarter as the visitors out scored the home team here . The third quarter ended 61-55.
In the 4th quarter Eagles were found their feet defensively as they got 2 quick steals but guard Spoors was unable to convert these on the other end. It was in this quarter that Leeds came back to tie the game and briefly take the lead with just over 6:30 to go in the quarter
Coach Calvin said “We played well going into the half, a few small errors cost us dearly including our inability to convert the visitors turnovers. This put in in a bit of predicament early in the 4th but we capitalised on their foul trouble and team fouls . We are making progress game on game, day after day and with a team as young as this a win is always a good sign of progress .”
