Recap
The Eagles playing their first road game of the season took on a very young Myesrcough College team with both teams looking for their first win in the league…. the Eagles were again missing Aaron Wilson who has decided due to work commitments he will be unable to continue playing….
The Eagles took to the court in white looking to get a good win under their belts against a young home side playing in green… The Eagles playing solid high intense man to man got about the hosts and by the 8th minute of the period the Eagles were dominating at 0-15… The home team then hit their first basket and again had a couple of free throws before the Eagles hit a perimeter shot from Chris Linsley followed up by a solitary free throw closing out the quarter at 4-16….
The 2nd period saw the boys in green go to a zone which helped them out a bit as the teams both had mini runs in scoring with the Eagles hitting 3 down town shots making it 19-31 at the half time… (15-15)
The second half got underway with Myesrcough scoring first before the Eagles again shooting well hit 8 without reply… The teams again traded hoops and the visitors went into the final 10 minutes up 33-51… (14-20)
The 4th quarter saw the in control Eagles crumble under pressure of a more aggressive defence and some poor finishing and multiple turn over’s… The home team dominated the period and the Eagles struggled even after time outs to get to grips with the now rampant Myerscough team… The score with a minute to play was 52-56 and it was Eagles top scorer Karpinskas who eased the situation with a free throw to make it 52-57 at the close… (19-6)
Eagles head coach said “We again failed to deliver the goods for 40 minutes… We made a change to the starters and it paid dividends as we got out of the blocks and dominated the first half… The locker room at half time was buoyant and it looked after the 3rd that the game was done… Then mentally we switched off and we crumbled, didn’t matter who was on the floor we over dribbled and made some horrendous passes and missed easy finishes… They closed in and another minute and we may well have coughed up the win… Back to the drawing board…”
Eagles Top Scorers- D. Karpinskas 11, I Ingram 10 and D Parkin 8….
