Eagles U14s took on Manchester Giants at Newcastle college’s Ryehill Campus. The visitor’s started strong, scoring going on a 12- 4 scoring run while the eagles found their feet. The eagles were plagued with turnovers as the bigger Manchester Giants showed their defensive prowess . First quarter ended 12-34
The second quarter u14s failed to find the net as their field goal percentage dropped significantly as the visitors dominated the interior and post play. Giants did not take their foot off the gas pedal as they continued to dominate the boards on either end, while the Eagles only scored 8 points .The first half ended 20-64.
3rd quarter saw much of the same both team didn’t shoot the ball particularly well but the home teams turnovers in transition saw the visitors capitalize on this area scoring easy layups and punishing the Eagles for these mistakes. This in addition the missed scoring opportunities in transition saw the Eagles give up some needed scores
In the 4th quarter it was very much of the same with the home team being outscored by the visitors with few defensive stops. The game ended with final score of 39-108.
Eagles u14s coach Calvin George said “Disappointed with overall performance as this team finds its feet as we got caught out on very simples mistakes, we failed to control the overall tempo and pace and continued to rush the possessions. We need to value the possession a bit more and rebound more effectively.”
