Newcastle U14s unable to close out the win at home against the Riders
The game started with the home attempting to score from the paint while the visitors went on a commanding 13- 4 run The Home team however had other ideas, after quickly realising certain shortfalls of individual players, the visitors pressured the visitors to take poor quality shots and forcing turnovers in the front court. Onneyekwe and Peterspressured the ball and Whitfield and Corkintook care of the interior scoring. 1st quarter ended in favour of the visitors 15-29.
The second quarter saw a turn in the tide in favour of the home team as the Eagles found their offensive rhythm and punished the visitorswith an impressive interior scoring display and defence. The Eagles scored a massive 35 points in the 2nd quarter alone, taking the lead into the half time. The first half ended50-46.
The first half Peters defensive intensity was the turning point in momentum from the home team to the visiting as he took charge on both ends of the floor.In third quarter the home team made a few mistakes of their own to allowing Ridersto score. The 3rd quarter ended 70-71.
The fourth saw the Eagles try to hold their groundbut the foul trouble was beginning to take its toll on the home team with 3 players fouling out the visiting team tookthe final buzzer and the win 82-90.
U14s Head Coach, Calvin George said: “It was good game, Not a particularly good 4th quarter but we are moving in the right direction. We have the capability to put 82 points the board and average double digit steals in each half. However, Foul trouble is an area that we will require loads of improvement”
Eagles U14s take on Northamptonshire Titans on the 10th of November .
