Recap
The Eagles were looking to finish on a 6-0 winning run as they travelled to a much revised Myerscough team looking to avenge their narrow defeat in Newcastle in December…. The Eagles travelled without both their point guards with Themba Yabantu on BBL duty and Tom Usher due to family reasons….
The Eagles playing in white took to the court looking to end their season by doing the double over Myerscough…The home team playing in black barely resembled the team the Eagles had beaten earlier in the season and the home team got on the board first…. The Eagles were in buoyant mood and they took the period 18-22… Myerscough were making some good shots from the perimeter but the Eagles played better team basketball….
The second quarter got underway with the visitors scoring again, the score at the 3rd minute was 22-24 before the Eagles went on a 0-10 run and by the 7th minute it was 22-34… The last 3 minutes saw both teams miss chances and the half time came with the Eagles leading 27-38…. (9-16)
The second half got underway with the Eagles sticking to their game plan as they continued to distribute the ball well and exploit the host’s lack of a forward as both Hogg and Parkin clocked well and dominated the paint… The Eagles edged the period by a score of 13-16 making it 40-54….
The 4th quarter saw the home team finally start to make some of their outside shots again hitting 4 perimeter bombs in the final 10 minutes as they closed out the game with a 15-12 period win and a final score of Myerscough 55- Eagles U23 66
Coach Heath said, “The game saw us come into Myerscough not really knowing what team we would face and with us shorthanded at the point guard slot it could have made life really difficult for us… However the nine players we had dressed all chipped in with a great team performance and Ilja Fjordorovs excelled filling in at the PG slot with some great assists… Our offence clicked all day with the guards and forwards well in sync… Even Coach Bernard said at the end of the game you gave us a lesson in team basketball….. So it’s now to the off season and a chance to look ahead….”
Eagles Top Scorers- Alex Williams 13, Dan Parkin 10 and Ben Hogg 9….
