Recap
The Eagles were looking to bounce back from their horror show in Sheffield against the Falcons who were just above them in the league… First time meeting of the two sides this season….
The home team in black were slow out of the blocks again as Stockport’s top scorer Plummer put 5 on the board without reply… The Eagles then hit back and with a 5-0 run at the end of the period they were 25-19 up….
The 2nd quarter saw the boys in black put some better defensive pressure on the visitors in green and by the midpoint they were 44-29 up having had some good mini runs of scoring… The latter part of the period saw both teams score baskets and the half was closed out at 54-41… (29-22)
The 2nd half got underway with the Eagles mixing things up on the defensive end and it stifled the visitors for most of the 10 minutes as both teams went on scoring runs and it ended with a 20-21 score in favour of the Falcons…. (74-62)
The Eagles made sure of claiming the victory as they never let the visiting Falcons get within double digits of them as they closed out the game at 95-80… (21-18)
Coach Heath said “We were slow out of the blocks again but we gathered ourselves and put in a much improved 40 minutes of basketball…. All our players contributed points and this proved the difference as the Falcons relied heavily on centre Plummer… We still missed a lot of chances around the hoop and at times didn’t box out well enough but it was a good win… We have a week off now before we travel to 2nd top Blackpool….”
