Newcastle Eagles 111 (20,49,76) (Moore 29, Bridge 13, Jackson 12)
Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders 74 (24,39,59) (Windless 20, Martin 15, Williams 14)
Newcastle Eagles moved two points clear at the top of the BBL with a crushing 111-74 win over an injury hit Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders.
Trey Moore’s 29-points for the home side was the stand-out performance of the night as Leicester suffered from being without Tommy Swanson and Rod Wellington.
Riders began the match well, opening up a 15-21 lead with 90 seconds of the first quarter left. The margin was only trimmed by two as Tony Windless made one of two free throws to give Leicester a 20-24 advantage.
Eagles continued to find Riders tough to break down but eventually went in from on the back of a Moore three (34-32). Two technicals called on the Riders gave Moore the chance to make three from four from the line and the guard hit another three to break the match open for Newcastle 40-32.
From there on the league leaders gradually pulled away from Leicester. A 49-39 half time lead was turned into a 76-59 third quarter margin from which the Riders couldn’t find a way back.
