The MVP honours for the Newcastle Eagles Men’s impressive 88 – 70 SLB home win over Cheshire
Phoenix in a packed Vertu Motors Arena on Friday night went to former Nix Maceo Jack.

The explosive shooting guard went for 24 points and 4 rebounds to continue his fine start to his
fledgling Eagles career and at the same time torched his former teammates. It meant Newcastle went
to a 2 – 0 record for the season whilst Cheshire slipped to 0 – 3 thus far.

Catching up with Maceo after the game he was obviously delighted with everything about the night.
The Team performance, his own personal contribution and life in the Early stages on Tyneside.

“It was great. The fans were loud they brought their energy and it was great to play I front of these
loyal fans and I had a lot of fun tonight.”

“The start of the game was chaotic. Cheshire play really fast. They run and gun but it was about us
controlling our tempo and controlling the game and I think we did that as the game went on.”

“When everyone’s going and we’re playing defence whilst running out everyone gets a touch of the
ball, we move the ball and that’s when we play at our best. It was good to see everyone getting it
going today.”

Maceo only arrived in Newcastle in the run-up to last Sunday’s opening SLB encounter at Caledonia
but his performance there after little preparation time and his performance on Friday show he’s hit the
ground running.

“It takes a while to adjust but within a couple of days here I was feeling good and adjusted and the
guys have done a great job in making me feel comfortable and I guess that’s shown up so far.”

“I think Marc’s vision for me was really good and I wanted to come and have an opportunity to help
contribute for the team to win and play in Europe as well as playing at home. I think this is a good
place to do that.”

Maceo despite having really helped in seeing of his old team had nothing but good words to say
about the Cheshire organisation.

“It’s always fun seeing the guys. I’ve got a lot of love for them and it was good to see them. It’s always
great to see familiar faces again.”

Its already looking a good decision from Head Coach Steutel to bring in a player that knows the
League and what it’s about. Performances like this have everyone at The Franchise excited going
forward.
