It was a great game and Durham University excellently led by Durham Wildcats star BBL point guard Chris Jones made them fight all the way but in the end Northumbria University confirmed their rating as favourites and took the National BUCS Championship with a 90 – 79 win.
At one stage in the 3rd quarter they were actually down by 9 points. But 4-year senior Jack Thompson who has played for the Senior Eagles side in his time in the North East snapped a trio of triples on his way to 18 pts (5/6 from long-range on the night) to bring his side back in to the game.
Then it was the Fab Four, Charles Smith, Darius Defoe, Drew Lasker and Scott Martin who came together to anchor the side home in the final quarter turning the game completely around and taking Northumbria to a first ever National Mens BUCS Basketball title.
Scott Martin who netted 25 points was named game MVP and was ably supported by Jack Thompson, Darius defoe who had a double-double of 17 pts and 10 rebs and Charles Smith who also hit double figures with 10 pts.
So for The Eagles in the side, an incredible 3rd National title this season and a great assist to the Northumbria programme.
