Lancashire Spinners vs Newcastle Eagles U14 Girls Premier North

NBL Under 14 Girls Premier North November 19, 2023 - 3:00 pm
Elton High School

Recap

Lancashire Spinners v   Newcastle Eagles
Girls U14

Newcastle Eagles made the familiar trip to the Northwest this time to face the Lancashire Spinners. The first quarter saw a determined looking Eagles side playing with the desire and toughness asked of them by their coach, winning rebounds and converting easy baskets. It was a very even matched first quarter with both teams pretty much matching each other basket for basket. The first quarter ended with the Spinners ahead by one basket.

Second quarter was very similar to that of the first, with each team matching each other basket for basket. The Eagles settled into the second quarter but unfortunately were unlucky not to convert a number of good chances. Instead of winning the quarter, they walked away with both teams having scored 15 points.

Unfortunately, the third quarter did not go the Eagles way. They could not find the same intensity or competitiveness from the previous two quarters struggling to make some easy baskets. The Eagles were missing easy shots and not winning rebounds. The third quarter finished with the Spinners win 17-8.

In the fourth and final quarter the Eagles enthusiasm was back. They played as a team like the first half of the game with renewed vigour and intensity. They were competitive, fighting for rebounds and instead of forcing difficult shots, they controlled the ball and the game with some great teamwork. The final quarter saw a dominant Eagles side with the Spinners resorting to time wasting where they ran the shot clock down to the final 5 seconds in order to protect their lead. The fourth quarter finished 8-8 with the final score of 54-43 to the Lancashire spinners.

The eagles played competitive basketball for 3 of the 4 quarters with some great teamwork seeing 9 of the 12 players make the score sheet. Unfortunately, they lost the thirst quarter and ultimately the game. We look forward to a good game in three weeks time when the Spinners visit the Vertu Arena.
