Congratulations to Kara Bonenberger, Rahmon Fletcher and Victor Moses who all received starting places in the All-Star Fives this week.
It was the start of a new chapter for women’s basketball as our Newcastle Eagles WBBL team chalked an opening weekend win and Kara Bonenberger stood out with a super line of 21 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals.
Strong performances from captain Giulia Simioni and Steph Gandy got them both seats on the bench of the first WBBL’s pick of players for this first week.
Across in the two-time league MVP Rahmon Fletcher gets his first BBL All-Star Five start of the season after his clinical display our win over Glasgow Rocks on Sunday, when he scored 24 points at 71% shooting and handed out 13 assists to help us reach our first century of the campaign.
Another Eagle has made the cut as Victor Moses went 10-of-13 from the field for 24 points to go with nine rebounds, two steals and a block in our road victory in Scotland. Moses finished with 81% shooting from inside and extended his range with a three and just pipped another team-mate to a starting spot.
Darius Defoe takes a seat on the BBL’s bench this week to compete a truly ‘All-Star’ week for both our Eagles teams as we head into a double home game weekend.
This Friday night our Eagles face the BBL new boys as the London City Royals make their first visit to Newcastle, then on Saturday afternoon our WBBL team welcome the Sheffield Hatters. Tickets for both games are on sale now.
