Newcastle Eagles U18 Men vs City of Edinburgh

NBL Under 18 Men Premier North October 27, 2018 - 4:00 pm
Newcastle College, Rye Hill Campus

Recap

The Eagles (1-3) extended their losing run to 3 games, but played the best game so far this season against Edinburgh Kings (1-1).

1st quarter description:

The game started with a back to back scoring actions with Eagles missing some key points and struggling with Kings full court press. The team managed to change their attitude and play bit slower allowing the guys to make the right decisions from a great defence and stopping Kings from scoring easily with a 11-2 run to end the first quarter ahead 18-13, thanks to a much-improved defensive effort.

2nd quarter description:

The second quarter saw almost complete domination from Edinburgh Kings, holding Eagles scoreless well into the 6th minute due to turnovers and lack of defence, when the big guys started to make themselves bigger inside of the key. This scoreless span (2-14), was a hurdle the locals would struggle to overcome. At half-time, the teams went into the locker room at 29-38 in favour of Kings.

3rd quarter description:

The first half scoring was dominated by Sauveur, Emeka and Jeremy for the hosts. The second half saw Sauveur and Jeremy help the scoreboard tick over for Eagles. After 3 quarters the score was 42-50 and the home team were looking comfortable.

4thquarter description:

The fourth saw the Eagles trying to reduce the difference but Kings maintaining it unfortunately for a 53-64 win for Kings.

Newcastle Eagles Head Coach, Miquel Vinyals said: “I was very proud of the performance today, particularly on the defensive end. Despite the loss, the team made a change and I hope this will be a changing point for our league. We held them for the 1st, 3rd and 4th quarters with a 42-39 for Eagles with 4 of 12 free throws, but a bad 2nd quarter set the game in favour of Kings. I thing this is the way to keep playing, and the results will come on its own. I’m sure it will be a tighter game when we travel to them but I am 100% positive we will get that game in our favour.”

Top scorers for Newcastle Eagles: Sauveur (13), Jeremy (11) and Joe (8)

Next week sees Eagles travel to Cheshire in a tough match.
