Recap
The Eagles were looking to get back to winning ways on their away trip to City of Leeds this weekend.
Game started fairly scrappy for the Eagles who turned the ball over numerous times to start the game. Thankfully Leeds could not capitalise on Newcastle’s mistakes and once the Eagles settled, a few good strong baskets saw them push out the lead to 6-0. Leeds however fought back to end the quarter 8-8.
The second quarter was again similar with the Eagles going on a run to stretch out the lead before being pulled back by Leeds after some poor rebounding by the Eagles let them back in. After a timeout the Eagles focused up on their rebounding and manage to finish the quarter strong to go into the half 20-18.
In the 3rd quarter the Eagles maintained their small lead but their struggles from the past few weeks to convert their opportunities was stopping them from pulling further ahead as they ended the quarter 30-27 up.
Things started to come together a bit better offensively for the Eagles as they pushed out their lead to 6 points. Leeds were working hard to bring it back however a dagger 3 by the Eagles gave them a 9 point lead with 2 minutes left and enabled them to finish the game with a 44-33 win. This was the definition of a grind out win for the Eagles and a step in the right direction to getting back on track this season.
Next home is a home game against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday the 25th of November.
