Newcastle U18s win at home to Sheffield sharks
The game started with the home attempting to score in transition and getting their first scores from the line. The home team capitalised on the fact that the visiting team transition defence was yet to find its feet this by forcing coach to call time out and adjust their defensive strategy as Sheffield was starting to get into foul trouble. Ridley continued his good shooting display and Evboumwan dominated getting three scores and fouls to send him the line. Score in the first quarter was 28-10
The second quarter saw more of the same as the Eagles found their offensive rhythm and punished the visiting team with an impressive shooting display. The first half ended 46- 31
The first half scoring was dominated by Evboumwan and Ridley who went 3/5 from beyond the arc for the Eagles. In third quarter the home team made a few mistakes of their own to allowing Sheffield to score. The defensive intensity changed dramatically when Spoors came off the bench in the third .The 3rd quarter ended 56-42.
The fourth saw the Eagles try to hold their ground to take the final buzzer and the win 84-89.
U18s Head Coach, Calvin George said: “It was a good game, there are some changes we need to make but a much needed win and overall a good performance from the team ”
Eagles U18s take on Cheshire Phoenix away next Saturday.
