The Eagles U14’s were at home against Sheffield for their first game of 2018, the last time these two teams met Sheffield came away with a 1 point win in a close game.
The first quarter was the closest of the game, both teams matched up well defensively however both teams missed key chances. The away side took an early 4-0 run as the Eagles failed to take advantage of some easy transition. It remained tight till the last minute where Sheffield 7-2 run to take a 14-13 lead.
The second quarter would be Sheffield’s biggest scoring quarter, they began with another 7-2 run to open the quarter before Newcastle were forced to take a timeout. After some evaluation Newcastle managed to go on a run themselves before Sheffield could respond and would hold a 6 point lead going through to the second half, 27-33.
After reviewing the first half the Eagles looked to change their ways however Sheffield went on a 16-4 run within the first 5 minutes of the quarter. The Eagles turnover numbers were increasing and struggled to stop Sheffield scoring. The Eagles recovered towards the end of the third quarter to be down by 10, 49-39.
The last quarter is where the Eagles came alive scoring 30 points in the last 10 minutes. Once they found their rhythm there was no stopping them going on a 22-4 run over the first 7 minutes. Sheffield took multiple timeouts however fantastic defence with easy transition points meant the Eagles couldn’t be stopped and closed out the game 69-59.
