Recap
After last weeks defeat at home to Birmingham the Eagles were on the road to their BBL rivals, Leicester.
The first quarter was great for the away side, they took control very early on with some defensive work that led to easy finishes on the other end. Leicester didn’t struggle to score in the half court and working for the best shot eventually and kept with the Eagles. The Eagles quickly got back into shape and piled the points again, dominating inside the key and finishing 25-12 to the visitors.
The second quarter is where it would all go wrong for the Eagles, mistakes in the half court and passing allowed Leicester to put the points on the board. Leicester continuously scored from inside the key but also taking control in transition which allowed them to turn a 12 point deficit into a 37-33 point lead heading into the second half.
From a defensive point of view this is where the Eagles would perform best, limiting the Riders to just 6 points over the 10 minutes. The Eagles picked up what they started in the first, finishing consciously at the basket and dominating on the rebounds, limiting the Riders chances and simply creating for opportunities for all players to work for the best score. It finished 49-43 to the visitors.
The last quarter in the game showed how could the Eagles could have played, they dominated in all aspects including rebounds, steals/ general defensive work and working for the best shot. All these combined turned this game from a close victory to a 23 point win. All players had a helping hand with this win with plenty of opportunities for all involved. Newcastle won 50-73
