Recap
After last weeks tough loss away to Leeds, the Eagles were once again back on the road, this time to Cheshire Wire.
The Eagles set the tone early by going on a great 15-2 run that spanned 5 minutes of great defensive play and transition points. Cheshire did well on the offence with rebounds however they couldn’t convert and the Eagles took control in transition on both ends. The remainder of the quarter saw Cheshire score off some easy looks. The quarter finished 6-19.
The second quarter was a very similar one to the first for the Eagles with two 6-0 runs throughout to keep the gap high. Cheshire were given opportunities at the free throw line however they couldn’t convert. Some nice post feeds and drives allowed plenty of Eagles players to get on the scoresheet, finishing 32-11 at the half.
The second half started slow defensively, Cheshire matched the Eagles intensity and both teams traded baskets throughout the third quarter. The final 3 minutes for Cheshire allowed them to cut the lead to 20 after going on a 8-2 run to finish 46-26 to Newcastle.
Newcastle were determined to finish the game off strong, and they did. They started with a 11-0 run before Cheshire could respond. They controlled all aspects of this quarter, including half offence and some great help on defence. Great ball movement along with some quick transition allowed them to finish the game 64-32.
The U14’s will continue their games next week as they host for the first time this season, against Birmingham at 12pm tip.
