Proud Newcastle Eagles partner Gateshead College is hosting a virtual event next week for anyone interested in joining one of their eight specialist sport academies from this September.
If basketball is your sport you’ll also have the chance to get expert coaching from Eagles BBL player Drew Lasker who is head coach of the Gateshead College Basketball Academy.
“I’m now in my third season in charge and we’ve gone from an academy of seven student athletes to now over 22 enrolled”, said Lasker.
“We’re a title contender in the Academy Basketball League and AoC Sport North East league and although we value winning, development is our priority. We want to position you for a career beyond Gateshead College.”
Two of Lasker’s Eagles teammates, Sean Murphy and Themba Yanuntu, are former Gateshead College students who worked their way through the ranks to play for the Newcastle Eagles senior team.
Anyone aged 16-18 years old and studying on a full-time course at Gateshead College can join one of the Sport Academies. To find out more join their virtual event on Monday 15 February from 6pm and chat with the coaches:
