Super League Basketball (SLB), the professional men’s basketball league in the UK, has announce the appointment of Sanjay Bhandari MBE as its Interim Independent Chair.
Bhandari will provide leadership to the SLB Board, focusing on strategic direction and ensuring the executive team delivers the ambitions and objectives of the League.
The Interim Chair will also act as a visible ambassador for SLB, building relationships with key stakeholders while championing the growth of professional basketball.

“I am delighted to be joining the Board of Super League Basketball”, said Bhandari.
“Basketball is the second most popular team sport for participation amongst children and young people in the UK, and Super League Basketball’s clubs are also key hubs for driving local community impact.
“A successful and thriving elite game nurturing great talent from home and abroad is essential to inspire future generations.
“I know that the game faces significant challenges at the moment and I hope that, ultimately, I can help to bring people together to focus on the long-term interests of the game.”
Bhandari brings extensive board and executive experience, demonstrating a deep understanding of good governance inside and outside sport, with a strong reputation for integrity and strategic judgment. He is Chair of Kick It Out, English football’s leading inclusion charity; Chair of Athletic Ventures (a commercial joint venture between UK Athletics, London Marathon Events and Great Run Company) and is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Lawn Tennis Association.
Outside of sport, Sanjay is Chair of Satellite Applications Catapult – an incubator at the heart of innovation in the UK space technology industry. His previous roles include being an Independent Non-Executive Director for the Serious Fraud Office. He was also a Partner at EY for 12 years.
In 2024, Bhandari was awarded an MBE for services to sport in the King’s New Year’s Honours List.
