Newcastle Eagles’ high-flying forward Kareem Maddox has been crowned the Molten BBL Player of the Month for February having also taken the honour last November.

The 23 year old averaged a stellar double-double of 21.6 points and 13 rebounds per game during the month to continue his excellent rookie BBL campaign and keep his team in with a chance of successfully defending their league title.

Maddox pulled down 34 offensive rebounds across five games, the joint most in the league for the period, and was also deadly when finishing at the hoop -shooting a terrific 62.9%. He also did a job defensively with two blocked shots per game.

The stunning performances of Maddox have taken place during a time of mixed fortunes for the Eagles. Last years’ clean sweep merchants lost their grip on the BBL Trophy with a quarter-final exit to Worcester Wolves and followed this up with a shock league loss to Cheshire Phoenix.

However, Maddox has since helped the Eagles sign-off February with new found momentum via successive road wins at UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders and Surrey Heat.

Maddox produced the second best performance of the entire BBL season last weekend, when he accumulated a mammoth valuation score of 47 after torching Heat for 26 points and 20 rebounds, in addition to four blocked shots.

The forward fought off stiff competition from team-mate Charles Smith and also Michael Ojo of UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders to take the award.
