This September our Eagles tip-off their biggest ever pre-season with six games for fans to watch at the Vertu Motors Arena in a packed two-week schedule.
Top of the bill is Swedish top-flight basketball league champions Norrköping Dolphins who fly to the UK next month to face Leicester Riders before travelling to Tyneside taking on Marc Steutel’s rebooted roster two days later.
Our new look men’s squad will get three opportunities to warm-up for BBL action with tip-offs against both the Sheffield Sharks and Surrey Scorchers.
In an exciting Friday night men’s and women’s double-header our WBBL team join the pre-season action and welcome old rivals the Leicester Riders back to Newcastle for the first time since knocking them out of the 2022 WBBL Cup.

“We are all very much looking forward to what will be a very challenging pre-season”, said Steutel.
“We are really pleased with how our recruitment has gone over the summer and these pre-season games provide a perfect opportunity to learn about ourselves and develop our identity heading into a very competitive BBL season.”
Norrköping entered the 2022-23 Basketball Champions League along with Leicester this summer and will prove to be high calibre competition for a new Newcastle side.
“Firstly, to be able to welcome a club of Norkkoping Dolphins’ stature and quality will be real test for us and one we are looking forward to,” added the new Eagles head coach.
“We know the current Swedish champions will pose threats in many areas as they are preparing for Basketball Champions League qualification games and we are excited to play the game.
“We also felt it important to play some quality BBL opposition with some of our roster being new to the league so being able to play three games against Surrey and Sheffield is another huge plus for us.
“Playing Surrey twice on back-to-back nights with a new coach [Lloyd Gardner] that I know very well and will have his team organised, will be an interesting challenge and test our ability to adapt.
“Sheffield have proven their quality and consistency over the years which is a credit to coach Lyons and their organisation and we are really pleased to welcome them to the Vertu Motors Arena to round-out our pre-season schedule.
“We cannot wait to welcome our amazing fans back to the arena to support our new look team heading into the season.”
