Newcastle Eagles 79 v East Durham Lions 54

Q1-Eagles 20-16 Lions
A first game at home and a good start with some quick baskets gave the Eagles an early lead, but as East Durham Lions found their feet and rhythm they hit back with some unanswered baskets of their own and the team’s traded points in a relatively even 1st Quarter which ended with a 4 point advantage to the Eagles.

Q2-Eagles 50-31 Lions
A dominant performance from the Eagles with clinical finishing, good rebounding and a hard working defensive display which saw them double their opponents scoring and go into half time on a high.

Q3-Eagles 67-39 Lions
Although the scoring slowed in the third the Eagles continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over and defended well to restrict East Durham Lions to 8 points and leave them with a deficit of 28 points to make up in the final quarter.

Q4-Eagles 79-54 Lions
After the hard work in the first 3 quarters this one turned to Walking pace! Quite literally as several travelling fouls across the team stopped momentum and a spirited East Durham Lions team who didn’t let their heads drop continued to battle and outscored the Eagles to win the 4th .

A spirited hardworking display, the group play well as a team and are growing with every game. The desire to work hard on both offence and defence demonstrated here with scores of 30-15 and 17-8 in quarters 2 and 3. If we continue to work hard, maintain that togetherness, learn from games, develop and grow, we can become a very good team
