Recap
The Eagles were looking to the double over Stockport Falcons and maintain their push for the league title while the Falcons were hoping to make a late push for a playoff spot… The Eagles were missing both Theo Riley and Domantas Karpinskas but they had Themba Yabantu and Danny Horta in their ranks to deputise….
The Eagles flew out of the blocks from the start and their fast flowing offence and solid defence saw them jump out to a 4-18 lead with 5 different scorers contributing… By the 7th minute the score had moved onto 8-30 and the home team in green then hit 7-0 run before the Eagles ended the scoring at 17-35… this included 4 triples…
The 2nd quarter saw the Falcons start to find their feet a bit more and the visitors in black didn’t dominate half as much as they had in the first 10 minutes… Both teams traded hoops but the Falcons never got closer than 14 points but they did edge the period 23-20 making it 40-55 at the half time break….
The Eagles talked things through at the break and it had the desired effect as they came out and by the 5th minute they were up 47-70 with another perimeter score from Alex Horta… The hosts were held to 8 points with some great defence across the last 5 minutes of the 3rd while the Eagles score freely moving onto 80… (15-25)
The 4th quarter was the most one sided affair as the Falcons rotated their bench and The Eagles gave equal court time across their 10 player bench… The difference was the Eagles were getting production from everyone while the hosts relied heavily on Rob Fairley for their scoring… The boys in black had 6 triples in this quarter as well as some great fast breaking and the home team seemed to have thrown in the towel well before the buzzer… The final score of 67-118 showed the eagles domination of the Falcons… (12-38)
Eagles U23 Head Coach Graham Heath said “We came into this game off the back of a great practice session on the Thursday and Stockport is never an easy place to play but we started so well and competed and dominated most of the 4o minutes… It was hard to single any player out for special praise as everyone contributed at both ends of the floor… We can now take a weekend off before we head to Tameside for what will be a very tough/bruising encounter with our focus on winning our division and being ready for the play offs…. We had 6 scorers in double figures and everyone got on the score sheet…”
