Recap
In the last regular season game of the season, the Eagles were travelling to Leeds. The team were looking to finish the season strong before heading into the playoffs.
In the first few minutes of the games, the Eagles full court pressure turned into turnovers and easy scores. After two minutes, they were winning 12-0 with Leeds not being able to get out of their own half. A decision to drop into half court defence, gave Leeds more freedom but they were struggling to get through the tight Eagles defence. After the first 5 minutes, the score was 16-0. The second five for the Eagles started with the same intensity and they also caused many turnovers which led to easy scores. After the first quarter the Eagles were leading 32-0.
In the second quarter, the Eagles were still able to score at will but were now being sloppy in possession and getting a few turnovers themselves. Leeds kept battling hard but couldn’t find a way through the Eagles defence. At the half the score was 52-0.
The second half was still all Eagles. They were however, understandably, dropping in intensity slightly and started to miss some easy lay ups. On the other hand, their defence went un-challenged as they stretched out their lead to 68-0. Leeds, to their massive credit kept battling all game and were able to get a score at the end of the third, much to the relief of everyone involved. The score was 73-2.
The fourth quarter followed the same theme as the previous three and the Eagles finished the game 94-2 winners.
It was a tough game to be a part of, but the Eagles stayed concentrated throughout and managed to maintain their intensity on the defensive end. Offensively they had many easy opportunities but also had quite a few unforced turnovers and missed some easy layups. These are the things that they will need to focus on as they look to prepare for their first round of the playoffs on the 30th of March.
