Newcastle U14s drop the home game against the Titans
Newcastle eagles were aware fully coming into this game that majority of the Titans scores would come from the paint and that they were not looking to shoot. The home team however after quickly realising that their pre-game scout report covered this very style of play. the visitors pressured the home team to try and take poor quality shots and forcing turnovers in the front court but this would prove to be the weak sticking point for the eagles. First quarter ended 20-34.
The second quarter saw more intense basketball by the Eagles, however mental errors saw the slow unravelling of the U14s team. The first half ended 42-54.
The first half review recorded that the Titans were well on their way to scoring the triple digits, this along with the fact that the U14s scoring drought and mental mistakes saw the eagles score 13 points in the 3rd quarter. Devastatingly Weech got a 4th Foul at the start of the 3rd Quarter and peters soon got his 4th foul as well. So with 3 players on the eagles side with foul trouble and 4 players (out of a total of 9) on the Titans side with 4 fouls as well, the 4th quarter would prove to be an interesting one.
The fourth Quarter saw the Eagles try to capitalise on the foul trouble of the titans but were evenly matched as they tried to cover the deficit from the 3rd quarter
U14s Head Coach, Calvin George said: “It was definitely a disappointing show for our team, not because of the scoreline but because of the mental errors made, simple things like not recognizing that the opposition were trying to score at the start of the game set the tone to our concentrations levels. That’s what’s we need to work on going forward.”
