Newcastle U14s upset at home City of Birmingham Rockets
Newcastle eagles were aware fully coming into this game that COB looking to avenge their home loss to the Eagles . But it was the visiting COB that stuck first as. The home team however after quickly realising that their visitors were taking poor quality shots and forcing turnovers in the front court, leading to the home team taking a lead in the first quarter ending in an even score score of 23-23
The second quarter saw more intense basketball as Sproul , Peters and Oneyenkwe got to work making use of defensive errors on the COB side holding the home team to 6 points only in that quarter . The first half ended 36-38
The first half review recorded that COB were well on their way to foul trouble as 18 fouls were called on total in the first half at the start of the 3rd quarter saw some improvement in making the visiting foul even more fouling out their taller stronger Hambech . Devastatingly Corkin got a 4th Foul mid way through the 3rd Quarter and On the COB Armstrong Wheatle, Ajaie -Morgan and Olajuwan all with 4 fouls the 4th quarter would prove to be an interesting one.
The fourth Quarter saw the Eagles try to capitalise on the foul trouble of COB. With just over 3 minutes to go COB were forced to take out Armstrong and Olajuwan before they fouled out. Eagles looked to close out the game from the line to hold their groundbut due to a two last minute transition scores COB were able to take the final Buzzer.
U14s Head Coach, Calvin George said: “It was good game, we executed well and stuck to our game plan despite the physicality and the fact that there were a lot of fouls called in a lot start stop play, Last game of our season and our team did well to show the progress we have made compared to the first half. Its our second year in Premier and I think we are developing at every moment”
