Recap
In their first away game the Eagles U16’s would face the City of Birmingham Rockets. Both teams had picked up wins last weekend, although the score lines would allude to two very different games, with the boys from Birmingham winning by 60 points, while the Eagles came out of a close contest one point winners. Nevertheless, both sides would go into the game feeling a level of confidence and hoping for a positive outcome.
The Eagles would however seriously struggle to compete in this one. The team from Newcastle simply couldn’t live with the intensity and tempo of CoB’s play and they would find themselves down 66-13 at the half.
After halftime the fledgling Eagles would battle hard, giving a much better account of themselves. Fewer turnovers meant limited opportunities for the home side and some better ball movement on offence would see the Eagles win the third quarter 19-20!
The final quarter was another close affair but with the game all but decided in the first 10 minutes it wasn’t enough to make any difference to the outcome. The game finishing 110-44 in favour of the hosts.
The Eagles will take this experience as a real eye opener to the pace and intensity of Premier basketball. Despite last weeks win the boys from Newcastle will know they have a long way to go to reach their potential; but knowing this group of guys I’m sure they are ready for the challenge.
