Recap
After last weeks tough defeat against Manchester Magic, the home side played Manchester Giants, a team that they beat away by 1 point at the start of the season.
The first quarter was fairly equal for the first 4 minutes as both teams failed to capitalise on key moments. Newcastle took a timeout with 6 minutes remaining which really seemed to make a difference by going on a 17-11 run into the final moments and managed to take a 23-16 lead into the second.
The second quarter would be successful for the Eagles as they looked to take even more control going into the second half. Turnovers and missed lay ups however would allow Manchester to stay in the game, forcing the home side to commit 9 across the quarter. Easy baskets inside along with defensive stops still allowed the home side to win the quarter 17-13 and a buzzer beater to finish it also helped the team spirit.
The third quarter is where the home side would take control, scoring 27 points and only turning the ball over twice in 10 minutes. A great defensive display limited Manchesters opportunities, grabbing 11 def rebounds. Some great ball movement, with everyone getting involved allowed the Eagles to score easily and at pace finishing the quarter 67-39.
Manchester would not give up, cutting the lead down to under 20 at one point, plenty of free throws would help their cause. This was a well-balanced quarter with the Eagles dipping performance for the final few minutes however this would be a big win for the home side.
The Eagles face Leeds at home this weekend with a 10am tip at Rye Hill.
