Recap
As the Newcastle Eagles took victory last week away to Cheshire Wire, it was time for them to host their first home game of the season against city of Birmingham.
The away side opened the scoring up taking a 5-0 lead before Newcastle responded. Birmingham had no problem scoring and it this would be a common theme throughout the game, however Newcastle managed to stay with them losing out 17-12 in the first.
The second quarter is where the visitors did the most damage, and it started from the first minute going on a 8-0 run before a timeout was called. Newcastle were unable to execute at the final hurdle and Birmingham kept the pressure on going on another 8-0 run. Too many turnovers and easy points for the visitors they led the half 49-32.
Newcastle were determined to fix the mistakes they made throughout the first half and things did look positive at times with some great defensive work and ball movement allowing the easy points to be put on the board. They kept with Birmingham throughout only losing out by 4 however their lead was still increased due to sloppy play with the ball and poor communication.
The fourth was a chance for the majority of the bench to show what they could do and for a while they looked promising throughout the quarter. Countless turnovers again meant that Birmingham kept the lead far enough away that it would be a solid victory for the away side. The game finished 72-93
The Eagles are back on the road against Leicester next week.
