Recap
York Eagles 58 v Newcastle Eagles 43
It proved to be a very tough game for Newcastle as they travelled to York, losing 58-43.
York Eagles have a very good history in the U14s Conference league, winning the league several times in the past few years. So the Newcastle Eagles knew it was going to be a tough matchup, but Newcastle wasn’t going to back down to the challenge. York came out with a very quick start making Newcastle go to the back foot. With both teams playing great defence, it created a low scoring game. Newcastle struggled to close the gap down, as they were struggling to score the ball, only scoring 5 points in the first quarter. Both teams had great full court pressure defence, making it difficult for either team to get open looks. With Newcastle missing a lot of free throws, the lead stayed in York’s favour at half time being 30-20.
In the 3rd quarter Newcastle found some fire and energy which we hadn’t seen throughout the game. Newcastle start bringing the lead back, where York were only up by 3 going into the fourth quarter.
York had all the momentum in the fourth quarter, playing very well in transition where Newcastle couldn’t stop their speed, resulting in York getting numerous open layups. York won the tough fourth quarter battle 20-8. Although it was a tough loss for Newcastle all around, they have improved massively and taken great steps forward.
