Recap
The Eagles U23 team put in an encouraging performance in their first official outing of the season, in the National Cup. As with most teams the young Eagles will face, Kingston sported more ‘experience’ after a strong showing in last years NBL Division 4, but the home side showed grit and determination to come out on top.
The first quarter was a relatively even affair, with the Panthers taking it 13-14. The second and third saw the Eagles rack up 50 points over the 20 minute stretch, behind some impressive pressure defence. While Kingston hung around due to some deadly outside shooting, and a heavy dependence on Jasulaitas (28 points) it was the young Eagles, with a balanced scoring attack, who came out victorious. As main man, Graham Heath was Auzzy-bound, stand-in Head coach for the day, Ian Macleod said: “I was extremely happy with the players and their approach under difficult circumstances. I asked them to do some things tactically throughout the game to give us the edge and they executed very well. We didn’t rely on any one player to help the score tick over and they can all be proud of their performance. It is now important we kick on, and strive toward promotion from NBL 4.”
