Recap
The Newcastle Eagles were on the road again, this time away to Leeds after last week’s victory in Manchester.
The away side couldn’t have asked for a better side as Leeds looked unorganised and the Eagles punished them for their mistakes taking an early 8-2 lead. Fast break points and good defensive organisation allowed them to extend their lead to 18-8 to end the 1st q.
The second quarter was even by all accounts, Leeds were much better organised and were starting to take advantage of the easy mistakes Newcastle were starting to make. Both teams traded baskets throughout the quarter however Leeds still trailed despite their improved play. The first half finished 34-24 to the away side.
The second half was is where Leeds began to take control of the game. The Eagles started where they left off however a few minutes in Leeds went on a 12-4 run with a timeout called immediately after. Turnovers were hurting the away side and Leeds simply took advantage during the quarter however the Eagles managed to recover some damage losing the quarter 14-10, leading by 5 going into the last 10 minutes.
The last 10 minutes saw Leeds not only taking advantage of poor turnovers from the Eagles but also using the offencive rebounds that came easily, with another run, this time taking a 10-0 run to make it a 52-49 point lead to Leeds heading into the last few minutes of the game. The Eagles managed to recover somewhat and were only down by 1 going into the last few seconds. Easily chances ere missed and free throws were made by Leeds to give them a narrow victory of 53-51 at home.
