Division 2 – Under 16s

It was the first game in Pool A last weekend and it saw Newcastle East Griffins Yellow lay down a marker as they saw off North Shields Thunder 41 – 19.

There were two games in Pool B and the wins for Westgate Hoopstars 29 – 9 over Gosforth Goliaths and North Shields Storm’s 38 – 8 defeat of Cardinal Hornets saw both sides move to 2 – 0 records setting up a showdown in the Pool.

Division 3 – Under 14s

Newcastle East Griffins had already secured the White Pool with a 3 – 0 record and the fixtures were completed by North Shields Hurricanes and Cardinal Hornets Gold with The Hurricanes storming past their opponents 46 – 0.

EAGLES COMMUNITY FOUNDATION – CENTRAL VENUE LEAGUE – Round-Up 28/01/2017

Last weekend saw all four CVL Divisions tip-off in earnest again after the previous week’s campaign was settled in fine style.

Unfortunately we were unable to bring you the final results of the previous CVL campaign but we can congratulate the winners before we start reporting the new campaign. So, its ………..

BIG CONGRATULATIONS to NORTH SHIELDS JETS Winners of the U18s Division.

BIG CONGRATULATIONS to CRAMLINGTON VIKINGS Winners of the U16s Division.

BIG CONGRATULATIONS to KENTON FORCE Winners of the U14s Division.

BIG CONGRATULATIONS to NEWCASTLE EAST GRIFFINS Winners of the U12s Division.

And off we go again…….

Division One – u18s

A cracking start with plenty of points flowing. Biggest winners were North Shields Jets who burnt Birtley Phoenix 69 – 30 whilst STBC were also impressive seeing off Tyne Met Tigers 57 – 28 and Westgate Hoopstars Black had an entertaining 52 – 42 win over Morpeth Kings.

The closest game saw Ryton Rockets just get the better of North Shields Rockets 32 – 28 in a hard-fought affair whilst Cramlington Vikings picked up a 20 – 0 forfeit over Westgate Hoopstars White.

Division Two – u16s

A lot of very differing scoring results in this division. Kenton Force were majestic in defeating Cardinal Hornets 62 – 10 and Cramlington Vikings also did well to beat Morpeth Grizzlies 45 – 9. The other three games were crackers.

Birtley Phoenix just edged North Shields Storm 24 – 22 whilst Blyth Celtics were also 2-point victors in a low-scoring encounter 13 – 11 over Gosforth Goliaths. The tightest game was also a low-scoring thriller with North Shields Thunder on the right end of a 10 – 9 scoreline over Westgate Hoopstars.

Division Three – u14s

Just the three games last weekend and all saw comfortable wins. Kenton Force had the biggest margin of victory 41 – 4 over Newcastle East Griffins Black whilst Griffins Yellow were also on the wrong end of the score-sheet going down 21 – 6 to North Shields. Morpeth Raptors were the other winners with a solid 28 – 16 success over STBC.

Division Four – u12s

Kenton Force showed their Fury and their Rage with both teams picking up wins. Fury dimmed Westgate Hoopstars 19 – 16 whilst Rage downed Gosforth Goliaths 16 – 8. Biggest winners of the day were Birtley Phoenix who dulled Cardinal Hornets Gold’s ambitions 34 – 2.

The final two games saw a good win for STBC 20 – 11 over Kingsmeadow Royals and Newcastle East Griffins 18 – 9 over North Shields Hurricanes.

Eagles Community Foundation Central Venue League – Round-Up After 10/12/2016

Division 1 – Under 18’s

Following the last week’s regular season fixtures where there were wins for Ryton Rockets, North Shields Jets and Cramlington Vikings, the Division was split in to two leagues, A and B.

So far in The A League North Shields Jets have a perfect 2 – 0 record and lead the way. Their last win coming in the Derby clash against North Shields Rockets where they recorded a superb 56 – 36 victory.

Birtley Phoenix got off to a great start seeing off The Rockets 49 – 12 but coming to earth the following week with a 73 – 22 loss to Newcastle East Griffins.

The B League has seen Morpeth Kings take the top spot after three great wins. They beat STBC 52 – 12 followed that up by beating Ryton Rockets 30 – 27 and then had another three-point win over Cramlington Vikings 26 – 23.

Meanwhile Westgate Hoopstars are also unbeaten having recorded wins over Cramlington Vikings in a close game 30 – 27 before seeing off Tyne Met Tigers 42 – 31.

Division 2 – Under 16’s

In the A League it’s congratulations to Cramlington Vikings who picked up their first ever CVL Championship by completing the campaign with a perfect 5 – 0 record. Runners-up were Newcastle East Griffins Yellow.

The Vikings won three in a row, beating Newcastle East Griffins Black 21 – 15, North Shields Storm 19 – 16 and Kenton Force 34 – 18 to set-up a final game Championship showdown with Newcastle East Griffins Yellow.

The Griffins Yellows having reached that game after seeing off North Shields Storm 30 – 14, Kenton Force 23 – 9 and stable mates Griffins Black 34 – 12. But that run came to an end against The Vikings in the winner takes all match-up which Cramlington took 29 – 19.

The B League is still to be settled. If Birtley Phoenix defeat Blyth Celtics in their final game which is still to be played they should take the title with a 4 – 1 record. Westgate Hoopstars can finish on the same mark.

However, The Phoenix have the head-to-head over Hoopstars after an excellent decisive win 22 – 13 so are one win away from the Championship with the destiny in their own hands.

Division 3 – Under 14s

Kenton Force are ivirtually confirmed as Champions in the A League title as they sit on a 3 – 0 record with one game to play against Newcastle East Griffins Yellow. A fourth win for The Force will knock North Shields off the top.

Kenton have the win over Shields 35 – 15 so even if they were to lose against Griffins Yellow the title should be theirs courtesy off the head-to-head.

Griffins Yellow will be no pushovers though as their tough overtime Derby win over Griffins Black, the only overtime game of the season, 29 – 25 shows.

There a few possible finishes in the B League. STBC have a 4 – 0 record and if they can defeat Birtley Phoenix in their last game they will be Champions. However, if Phoenix win they’ll match STBC’s record and give themselves a chance of winning the title.

That would depend on Westgate Hoopstars as they have a 3 – 1 record as well with the head-to-head over Birtley. The Hoopstars face bottom of the table Gosforth Goliaths in their last game hoping The Phoenix can defeat STBC.

Division 4 – Under 12s

In the A League it all comes down to the fina fixture of the season. The unbeaten Newcastle East Griffins only have to avoid defeat against winless Kenton Force to take the top spot and the Championship.

The B League has been completed and it’s congratulations to North Shields as their superb unbeaten 5 – 0 record has seen them finish two wins ahead of their closest rivals to enable them to lift the title in some style.

Jeff King – CVL Press Officer

Eagles Community Foundation Central Venue League – 12/11/2016

A slight change of direction in Divisions 2 and 4 whilst the usual suspects still lead the way in Division 3, the three areas where most of the CVL action happened last weekend.

Division 1 – Under 18s

Only one game played in the Division and did not affect the top of the table but STBC did improve their own record by comfortably seeing off Ryton Rockets impressively 59 – 25.

Division 2 – Under 16’s

After the opening period of the season the league have now been split in to A and B Divisions based on their performances in the earlier White and Black Pools.

In the Top A Division Kenton Force opened with a solid 29 – 11 win over Newcastle East Griffins Black whilst Griffins Yellow faired better defeating North Shields Storm 25 – 11. The other game in the A Division resulted in a nice 34 – 14 win for Cramlington Vikings over North Shields Thunder.

In Division B Morpeth Grizzlies fought hard to overcome Birtley Phoenix 24 – 19 whilst Walbottle Wizards were more impressive downing Cardinal Hornets 34 – 9. Westgate Hoopstars and Blyth Celtics meanwhile played out an exciting game with Hoopstars narrowly winning 19 – 16.

Division 3 – Under 14s

Only one game in The White Pool and it didn’t involve leaders Newcastle East Griffins Black as Cramlington Vikings knocked over Gosforth Goliaths 32 – 9.

The Black Pool saw leaders Kenton Force move to an excellent 5 – 0 record after a terrific 38 – 8 win over Ryton Rockets. There were also wins in this pool for Morpeth Raptors 23 – 10 over STBC and Newcastle East Griffins Yellow who just held off a determined Birtley Phoenix by 26 – 23.

Division 4 – Under 12s

This Division has followed similar lines to Division 2 with early season form and results giving us an A and B Division split. Only one game in the A Division last weekend with Newcastle East Griffins making a solid start defeating Westgate Hoopstars 23 – 14.

The B Division saw two games played with STBC taking the victory 28 – 6 over Cardinal Hornets Gold whilst Hornets Black had better fortune defeating Gosforth Goliaths 11 – 8. Finally Birtley Phoenix were unable to fulfil their fixture with North Shields who received a 20 – 0 forfeit win.

Eagles Community Central Venue League – 05/11/2016

The “CVL” returned with a vengance last weekend with several powerful displays and close games as teams battle for supremacy in the region’s top junior leagues.

Division 1 – Under 18s

Pride of place has to go to North Shields Jets who had an amazing 100 – 15 win over Ryton Rockets to take them clear at the top of the Black Pool on a 4 – 0 record. The other game in the pool saw STBC produce a great effort to take down Cramlington Vikings 54 – 21.

In the White Pool Newcastle East Griffins impressive 66 – 26 win over Tyne Met Tigers saw them move clear at the top as they moved to 4 – 0 overall. Meanwhile North Shields Rockets and Morpeth Kings played out a thriller with Rockets just edging it 27 – 26.

Division 2 – Under 16s

Kenton Force are the dominant leaders of the White Pool moving to 5 – 0 for the season after a great 53 – 5 victory against Cardinal Hornets. In the same pool Newcastle East Griffins Black had an entertaining 39 – 28 win against Birtley Phoenix whilst North Shields Storm held on for a hard-fought 23 – 20 defeat of Morpeth Grizzlies.

In the Black Pool we have a two-way tie at present with both teams on a 4 – 1 record. Newcastle East Griffins Yellow got their comfortably beating North Shields Thunder 36 – 8 whilst Cramlington Vikings were forced to battle all the way before beating Blyth Celtics 15 – 13. The games were completed by the West of Newcastle derby with Walbottle Wizards defeating Westgate Hoopstars 21 – 18.

Division 3 – Under 14s

The 4 – 0 leaders of the White Pool Newcastle East Griffins Black were without a game so Westgate Hoopstars too the opportunity to close the gap a little after a very good 39 – 2 win over Gosforth Goliaths.

In the Black Pool Kenton Force’s 40 – 3 demolition of STBC saw them move clear at the top with a 4 – 0 record. There were also great wins for Morpeth Raptors 20 – 7 over Newcastle East Griffins Yellow and Ryton Rockets who saw off Birtley Phoenix 20 – 9.

Division 4 – Under 12s

Newcastle East Griffins retained their unbeaten record and top the White Pool with 3 wins and a tie after blanking Cardinal Hornets Gold 41 – 0. In the Black Pool Westgate Hoopstars lead the way on 4 – 0 after over coming Cardinal Hornets Black in a tight game 19 – 14.

The other games saw the fast improving Kingsmeadow Royals beat Gosforth Goliaths 15 – 9 whilst Birtley Phoenix rose above STBC 17 – 8.

Eagles Community Foundation Central Venue League – 22/10/2016

The CVL” returns this weekend at John Spence Community College after the half-term break so we’ll look back at the fixtures, results and tables that took us in to that break.

Division 1 – Under 18s

Leaders Newcastle East Griffins had a bye week so didn’t add to their 3 – 0 record. The games that did go ahead saw wins for Birtley Phoenix who saw off Cramlington Vikings 41 – 24 whilst a closer encounter saw North Shields Rockets take a 34 – 26 win over Tyne Met Tigers.
